DELIVERANCE FROM ERROR AND ATTACHMENT TO THE LORD OF MIGHT AND MAJESTY

"I proceeded . . .  to reflect on sense-perception and on necessary truths . . . The outcome . . .  was that I could no longer trust sense-perception . . . . Perhaps only those intellectual truths which are first principles (or derived from first principles) are to be relied upon, such as the assertion that ten are more than three, that the same thing cannot be both affirmed and denied at one time, that one thing is not both generated in time and eternal, nor both existent and non-existent, nor both necessary and impossible.'"1a DESCARTES BRENTANO

"The intelligent man follows ' . . .  when he said, 'Do not know the truth by the men, but know the truth, and then you will know who are truthful.'"1b

"Just as intellect is one of the stages of human development in which there is an 'eye' which sees the various types of intelligible objects, which are beyond the ken of senses, so prophecy also is the description of a stage in which there is an eye endowed with light such that in that light the unseen and other supra-intellectual objects become visible. . . "1c

THE BEGINNING OF GUIDANCE

"Whenever you see in the mosque someone selling something, say: 'God make your trafficking unprofitable.'"1d NEW TESTAMENT

"The devil is always trying to entice fools to evil, presented in the guise of good. Do not become a laughing-stock for the Devil and have him scoff at you."1e KRAMER & SPRENGER

"The unlawful includes even the property of the man of whom you know that the major part of his wealth is quite unlawful . . . "1f
